Mountain biking in Grimentz and Anniviers


For mountain bike lovers, the Alps are definitely not to be missed. The Alpine mountain ranges offer a very wide variety of landscapes and destinations to enjoy a lot of different activities and are a perfect playground for mountain bikers.

There are many well-known destinations for mountain biking in Switzerland, France, Italy and Austria, and the area around Grimentz is one of them. There are over 200km of mountain biking paths across the Anniviers valley around Saint-Luc, Grimentz and Zinal. No matter the level you have, there is such a variety of routes that all kind of users can find their paradise, from beginners to experts or professionals.


Local information

The bike-explorer map is available at the tourist offices in the valley and identifies and provides more details about all the available tracks. The local shop in Grimentz, Do-sport, rents, sells and repairs regular mountain bikes as well as e-bikes. For those who prefer exploring with a guide, Ride the Besso, based in Zinal, will be the company to get in touch with. Buses, gondolas and cable cars are the main transportation that can be used by mountain bikers, as they are all equipped for carrying bikes and running all summer long.

Bike park

For those only interested in going down, there is also bike park in the nearby village of Saint-Luc. The funicular covers a 500m height difference and takes you up to 3 paths with 3 different difficulty levels, as well as a jump area. The bike park is open from the end of May to the beginning of November.


Events

The Grand Raid is one of the major mountain biking events, going through some of the most stunning landscapes in the Alps. In 2019, the race between Verbier and Grimentz will take place on the 24th of August. It covers 4 different lengths, that can be done on your own or in a team of 4, 125km being the longest maximum distance. Definitely not to be missed!


In addition to its stunning landscapes, all this infrastructure and mountain bike oriented developments really make the Anniviers valley one of the best spots in the Alps to enjoy mountain biking.
